We may not know which big name actors HBO will snag to replace True Detective stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson for Season 2, but now we do know this: there will be three leads in the breakout hits sophomore season.

For those who missed the memo, True Detective is an anthology series like American Horror Story. Each season is going to feature a new story and a new cast of characters. Season 2 will still be a mystery and the showrunner will stay the same, so you can probably expect a similar tone, but other than that, there's a lot of change in the work. Including, it turns out, a switch up in the number of main characters.

In an interview with To the Best of Our Knowledge (via Vulture), creator Nic Pizzolatto chatted about the show. Although he refused to dish much about Season 2, he did share a few details.

In the past, Nic Pizzolatto has teased Season 2 as being about "hard women, bad men, and the secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system." In this interview he added that the new season will be set in California — but not LA. And like with Season 1, the show will "try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place."

Another thing he mentions? Yep — this season will have three leads. He also added that casting starts "in earnest" in the next few weeks, so keep your eye out for more news soon!
