If you’re anything like us, you need another reality singing competition to watch now that American Idol and The Voice have bid adieu for the summer. Enter ABC’s newest show, Rising Star. But, to separate it from its predecessors, there’s a twist: Instead of having a panel of judges sitting in a chair deciding the fate of your favorite singers, you’re the one making the decision!

For the first time in television history, viewers can decide which contestant advances in real time just by using the Rising Star’s app. So how does it work? When the singer takes the stage to perform, a 90-foot wide interactive wall separates them from the audience, so you can only hear their voice. Then, users decide whether they love or hate a performance just by swiping to the right (for yes) or left (for no) on their smartphone or tablet. Pretty tech savvy, huh?

Don't miss the episode.

While the contestant sings, he/she can see how many votes their performance is garnering on the wall, and if they get enough, they move onto the next round and the wall rises (hence the show’s name, Rising Star). Plus, since results happen instantly — you don’t have to wait days to find out the results.

But with every reality competition, there has to be some star power! Josh Groban will be the show’s host, and the panel of experts includes rapper Ludacris, pop sensation Kesha, and country favorite Brad Paisley. As for their role on the show? They’re only there giving guidance and feedback.

Catch the premiere of Rising Star this Sunday, June 22, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. Make sure you download the free Rising Star app so you’re ready to vote the moment the first performance starts!
