If you like the juicy melodrama of Revenge and the glitzy camp of Gossip Girl, then E!’s The Royals is definitely going to be your new favorite show.

The network’s first scripted series follows a fictional family of royals in modern London. Sitting atop this throne, however, is Queen Helena, played by Elizabeth Hurley — a far cry from Her Majesty Elizabeth II, but a lurid delight in a show full of sexy surprises.

"There's little resemblance to Her Majesty Elizabeth II, Queen of England," said Elizabeth told TODAY.com about her character. "But you never know. The beauty of this show is that we go behind closed doors."

And The Royals wastes no time diving into the drama. The series kicks off right after the Queen’s eldest son and successor, the Prince of Wales, has died. That puts his younger brother Prince Liam as next in line for the throne, a bullet he thought he’s already dodged. Prince Liam is, of course, the wild child of the Royal Family, no doubt pulling stunts that would make even Prince Harry blush.

He also happens to have an American girlfriend named Ophelia whom Queen Helena does not approve of. Ophelia, played by former Ravenswood star Merritt Patterson, will definitely shake things up for the Queen, who has a “diamond heiress lined up for the Prince.”

Elizabeth describes the series as “sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll” in Windsor Castle, so this is definitely a show that’s getting a season pass on our DVRs. Watch a sneak peek of the series below!
