Twitter Nielsen Ratings Are In — Where Did Vampire Diaries Fall On The List?

In this television day and age, it’s not just ratings that can measure a show’s success, but the number of mentions it gets on Twitter! Nielsen just released its Twitter TV Ratings for last week, but where did The Vampire Diaries fall on the list?

TVD managed to snag the No. 6 spot with nearly 2,500 tweets! This is pretty impressive considering most of the top ten was dominated by competition reality programs rather than drama (although, ABC’s sudsy conspiracy thriller Scandal was #1 on the list). Also beating TVD on the list: MTV’s Miley: The Movement; Saturday Night Live (hosted by Miley Cyrus); and two episodes of The Voice. Considering four of those five were broadcast on one of the top four television networks (i.e. ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox), TVD’s high rank on the list is even more impressive!

This is the first week Nielsen has released Twitter ratings, and is measuring a show’s score through four categories: number of tweets, unique authors (i.e. if the same Twitter user tweets multiple times about a show, they will only be count once), impressions (i.e. how many times each tweet was seen), and unique audience. So, basically, in order for a show to score high Twitter Ratings, it needs to be tweeted about not only a lot, but by many people. Keep up the good work, TVD fans!

Do you tweet about TVD? Do you think it’s a good measure of a show’s success? Sound off in the comments below!

Catch the next episode of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW, followed by the series premiere of Reign.
