Is an Ugly Betty Movie Happening? America Ferrera Says… (VIDEO)
The resurrection of brilliant-but-canceled teen noir series Veronica Mars through a Kickstarter-funded movie has everyone wondering if their favorite shows of yesteryear can be resurrected.
So it's no surprise that ET asked America Ferrera about the chances that we might see a big-screen version of Ugly Betty — the comedic drama in which America starred as the titular character, a plucky Queens woman who rises in the ranks of a fashion magazine staff despite her kooky appearance.
"You know, it's a question that comes up a lot," America says, smiling. "And, I don't know. I guess the time would have to be right, and all of the right things would have to come into alignment, but anything's possible."
In the meantime, however, America is promoting her latest film Cesar Chavez — a biopic of the labor leader who united Mexican farm workers in California to demand fair wage.
The film — which hits theaters on March 28 — stars Michael Pena as Cesar Chavez alongside co-stars like Rosario Dawson, Wes Bentley, and John Makovich.
"The importance in telling a story like this is not just about reviving a history lesson but about making it relevant," America explains. "Right now is an amazing time to be reminding ourselves of the legacy that Chavez left, which was that he found a way to put the power in the people's hand."
Sounds like America has a penchant for stories about seemingly-ordinary people with extraordinary success stories!
