There are a good many of us fans out there still mourning the loss of one of the most-beloved TV sitcom, Girlfriends. For almost eight seasons, the show followed the lives of Joan Clayton (Tracee Ellis Ross), Maya Wilkes (Golden Brooks), Lynn Searcy (Persia White), and Toni Childs (Jill Marie Jones) and left the air in 2008 (but not without giving birth to its spin-off, The Game).
For years fans have begged for a comeback and Golden seems to be giving them hopes of their dreams coming true. The star took to Twitter earlier this month calling Girlfriends fans to help bring the show back in a big way — in the form of a movie.
“So many of u been asking about #Girlfriends lately well if these other shows can get a come back why not #GirlfriendsMovie right? #petition,” she tweeted on May 3. And if that didn’t light a fire under these fans’ butts, Golden tweeted again, this time with a photo with her former co-stars saying, “It will happen STAY TUNED!!!!!!!!!!! #Girlfriends #demandit.”
Demand it, we will! After all, when HBO’s hit show Sex and the City went off the air, it got not one, but TWO movies (with talks of a third) following the lives of its lead characters. So why not Girlfriends?
Of course, nothing else has really been said about the show coming to big screen — especially with several of the stars engaged in other projects. That includes Golden, who snagged a spot on Todd Tucker’s new reality show, Hollywood Divas. But who knows — it just may come to pass.
As they say, if you petition it, it will come…
