It’s been over two years since the great Whitney Houston left us (we’re still mourning the loss), but it looks like we’ll get to see a portion of her life retold on the small screen. That’s right, a Whitney Houston biopic is in the works, and none other than Whitney’s friend, and Waiting to Exhale co-star, Angela Bassett is set to direct.

According to the press release, Whitney Houston (the working title) is scheduled for a 2015 world premiere and will chronicle the “headline-making relationship between the iconic singer, actress, producer and model, and singer, songwriter Bobby Brown — from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity, to their courtship and tumultuous marriage.  Throughout it all, difficulties followed the superstar couple while they dealt with the overwhelming rewards and consequences of the fame and fortune created by Whitney’s meteoric rise that would soon overshadow them both.”

“I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story,” Angela said.  “Their humanity and bond fascinates us all.  I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.”

The film will be produced by The Sanitsky Company and executive produced by Larry Sanitsky (who worked on Betty & Coretta, which starred Angela and singer Mary J. Blige). Shem Bitterman, who wrote Betty & Coretta, will pen the script for the Whitney biopic.

We don’t know about you, but we’re totally looking forward to this and think Angela will do an amazing job!
