We’ve already got the first look of Yaya DaCosta as Whitney Houston for the late singer’s Lifetime biopic, Whitney Houston, and we’ve also seen first look of Arlen Escarpeta as Bobby Brown. And now — we’ve got the first listen of Deborah Cox as the Grammy Award-winner.
In case you didn’t hear the news, the upcoming biopic (set to hit the small screen in 2015) is still undergoing some issues with using Whitney’s recorded music, explaining the “music rights and clearances are still being worked out.” However, the show must go on, and the channel enlisted Deborah to belt out Whitney’s classics.
In the video above, we get to hear Deborah cover Whitney’s icon hit, “I Will Always Love You,” and quite frankly, we think it sounds pretty good.
Of course we know there can only ever be one Whitney Houston, but Deborah’s not one to turn your nose up at. The Canadian songbird is the recipient of numerous Juno Awards, has been nominated for an AMA award and a Grammy, and has had an extensive run as a Broadway actress/singer.
Do you think Deborah can pull it off? Listen to the cover above and tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
