Two-time Dancing With the Stars champion Julianne Hough is returning to the ballroom on Monday, October 7 to guest judge the action of Season 17, Week 4.

One person who’s happy to see Julianne as guest judge is Valentin Chmerkovskiy. He never actually competed on a season with her, since she left the show after Season 8 and he started competing on Season 13. But in his TODAY blog, Val writes that Julianne “is a very honest and very professional person” with lots of knowledge and experience and he’s looking forward to hearing what she has to say. “I’m excited to have her as a guest judge.” He just hopes she’s followed someday by his own brother, Maksim Chmerkovskiy

“I just feel that it would be cool to have my brother there as well,” Val writes. “I would love to see Maks as a guest judge somewhere along the season. I think in general, he would be a great judge on the show, period. But every time that thought came up, the righteousness in me always said, ‘You know that’s never going to happen! I’m still on the show and the whole $#&^% cast is going to complain!’” If the whole cast doesn’t complain about Julianne, they shouldn’t complain about Maks. Julianne did win two trophies, but Maks was with the show longer than Julianne and he’s seen more of the dances.

Despite Val saying it would never happen, he goes on to suggest Maks might indeed guest judge the show. “My brother said to me that that was definitely a conversation that was had, and that it was something he would be very, very interested in doing. If the right people sit down and come up with the right plan and a common language, I think it could work out incredibly for the show. I wish that we could get my brother there eventually, but not as my brother, but as Maks, somebody who would be an incredibly professional judge, a very refreshing voice, and a pretty cool, pretty fresh perspective. But Julianne! Very excited!”

It does seem like Julianne might be able to open the door for others, like she’s opened the doors for DWTS stars to cross over into films and wider fame in general. She’s the trailblazer, but we think it would be a great idea to have Maks on board as a guest judge, too. Just squeeze another chair in next to Bruno Tonioli so he has someone new to hit with his flailing arms!
