Val Chmerkovskiy a multi-talented man. In addition to choreographing for and competing on Dancing With the Stars 2013, he also sings, raps, and teaches classes at Dance With Me USA. His latest endeavor is much different than his other creative talents, though: designing clothes.

Wetpaint Entertainment recently caught up with the DWTS pro at the launch for his new clothing line, Valentin, on October 17 at the new Philippe in Beverly Hills, California, where he and friends sipped on ZING Red Velvet Vodka cocktails to celebrate. He explains that the line is "a reflection of his background,” fusing the “urban feel and urban comfort with the couture and high fashion of Europe” —  a ”street-couture blend” of New York attitude and the chic nature of Paris and Milan.

As we’ve seen in some behind-the-scenes photos, the line is mostly black and white, with a mix of simple (yet stylish) men’s and women’s shirts and pants. Though he loves both sides of the line, his ideas initially stemmed from clothes he wants to wear on the daily.

“I wanted to do a clothing line first and foremost for myself! I genuinely have a certain taste and a certain style that I love and I obsess over,” Val says of his inspiration. “I’m very passionate about everything I do and so the biggest reward out of all of this was my ability to share my passion of creating fashion with other people but honestly so far, the best thing has been a closet full of great stuff that I love wearing.”

Val didn’t fly solo when it came to designing this line, though. He worked with troupe dancer and close friend Nicole Volynets, who was actually the one to suggest the name “Valentin” for the line. While he admits it “sounds super vain,” it was all her — he says he’s too humble to make it all about him.

While Val may be too humble, his brother Maks Chmerkovskiy was happy to sing his praises. Maks tells Wetpaint he’s “incredibly” proud, and the fact that the line is out is still sinking in. “I love it. I don’t know where this came from —  it was very sporadic and spur of the moment and I think that’s the way everything should be,” he says. “You think about it, put in effort, put in work and then see it happen. I am amazed. I had no idea he had it in him!”

At the end of the day, Maks is most excited to get a closet full of clothes. “It’s a dream come true when you’re that close to an actual designer of awesome stuff!” he says. “It’s definitely something I’m going to have a full closet of.”

Now that Val’s line is available at ValentinNYC.com, our closets will be full of his clothes, too. Will you be buying any pieces? Tell us below!
