The 15 Best Moments of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 (VIDEOS)

As TVD came to an end, there were dark times (very, very dark times), but sometimes there were some incredible moments of love, survival, and fun. (None of which include the devil or the Sirens taking down our favorite characters.)

These 15 moments were our absolute favorites of The Vampire Diaries Season 8.

Bonnie Bennett forever. She (again!) risked her life to save everyone else. Her magic came back just in time to push back the hellfire from Mystic Falls, and her one-liner to Caroline, “I’m gonna save the world,” had us standing up to cheer.

We waited what seemed like forever for it, and it finally happened. Elena woke up from the spell (thanks, of course, to Bonnie) and ran to hug and kiss Damon. We at home swooned.

Sure he’s technically the “bad guy,” but we sure do love to hate him. When Kai surprised everyone and popped back up in Mystic Falls, we all let out out a collective scream of both fear and joy.

4. The Steroline Wedding Ceremony (Episode 15)

Sure, it was all pulled together to bring Katherine from hiding, but when that didn’t work, the ceremony itself was a beautiful moment in a very dark season for two characters who have been through (almost literally) hell and back.

Even if you don’t ship, you probably shed a tear.

Benzo/Bonenzo is the ultimate OTP of Season 8. And while they had a mostly sad ending as a couple (RIP Enzo) this moment of Bonnie fighting and risking her life to bring her love back to her was incredible.

6. “Hello, Brother” Times Two (Episodes 1 and 16)

6. “Hello, Brother” Times Two (Episodes 1 and 16)

We always love hearing that iconic line, though we have to say, the second one this season was by far the best. The series ends when Stefan opens the door, just like in the pilot, and Damon is there to join him in peace, redeemed.

7. Kai Singing Karaoke (Episode 14)

This was a true moment of hilarious fun in a pretty dark season, and we loved it. “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” was a pitch-perfect choice.

Sneaking in for the final moments of the series is a true Klaroline moment. After Caroline and Alaric open their school, they have a generous donor: Klaus. And the voiceover makes it clear that the door is open for a Caroline and Klaus love story to continue.

Do we need any more proof that Bonnie is a selfless badass? She literally beat the devil. Just when we thought Damon was headed to hell with Cade, Bonnie fought with all of her returning magic to bring her bestie back to her.

10. Katherine Makes Her Triumphant Return (Episode 16)

Katherine always loves to make an entrance. This was a rollercoaster of emotions because we thought it was Elena, but then it turned out to be Katherine (which wouldn’t be the first time).

She’s one of our favorite villains ever, and it was so nice to see Nina Dobrev back on screen that we didn’t mind the bait and switch.

Not all is lost! Bonnie and Enzo live! Things really kicked into high gear when we realized that Enzo had gone evil, but he was also still in love with Bonnie and wanted to be saved.

“I would brave the oceans and sail past the sirens to find my way back to you,” he said.

That necklace is iconic in Delena lore, and Caroline making the awesome choice to give it to Damon for Christmas kickstarted the return of his humanity, his love for Elena, and basically everything that set up what came in the finale.

It was a true turning point (he even killed Sybil!) and we were so excited.

The finale montage brought back so many faces of the past, and each time we kept crying happy tears even harder: Tyler, Jo, Sheriff Forbes, Jeremy, Aunt Jenna, and even Elena’s parents!

We’ve been waiting so long to hear this letter, and while it made us sob, it was a true incredible BFF Bamon moment, which are some of our favorite TVD moments. “You, Bonnie Bennett, are an amazing woman, a mediocre crossword player, and my best friend.”

“I was feeling epic,” indeed. What a beautiful send-off for Stefan Salvatore as he runs out and greets his long-dead friend. Sure, we were happy through our sobbing for Stefan’s sacrifice, but it was a nice moment nonetheless.
