Vampire Diaries Star Ian Somerhalder Is a True Gentleman — We Have Proof!

Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder certainly knows how to charm. You’ll never guess what he did for TVD executive producer Julie Plec for his birthday.

Ian’s 35th birthday falls on Sunday (December 8), but don’t expect to take the guy out to dinner or anything. That was Julie’s strategy, and look how it worked out: “Tried to take @iansomerhalder out for his bday and he snuck the bill out from under me. What a man. Too bad he lacks looks, charm & smarts,” Julie tweeted early this morning (must have been a late dinner after a long day of shooting). We wonder if Julie took Ian out to the same fondue restaurant at which she not-so-long-ago grabbed fondue with Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy) and co-executive producer Caroline Dries. Can we please join this cast?

And as if Ian’s check-snatch wasn’t sweet enough, he also had this to share with the Twitter-sphere about his “hot date” with Julie: “On a hot date right w/ my cosmic sister/boss/love The one. The only. @julieplec I LOVE you Jules... Thanks for my pre-birthday dinner,” Ian gushed on his page. Kindly stop being so adorable, please.

We were already smitten with the birthday boy due to his birthday wish: for 1 million people to give $35 to the IS Foundation. ($35 for 35 — get it?) The IS Foundation is Ian’s philanthropic umbrella, with goals to promote and fund green energy development and conservation, foster youth empowerment, and work towards species safe sterilization to tame pet overpopulation. That’s right, folks. On his free time, Ian tries to help the planet, children, and all of his furry friends. Are we really surprised he wouldn’t let Julie foot the bill?

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
