Some Twitter handles have the worst luck! Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder had his Twitter account hacked for a second time this past weekend, giving an as-of-yet unknown hacker access to Ian’s 5.75 million followers. Said hacker then proceeded to go on a favoriting spree with Ian’s account. How did Ian respond?

If it wasn’t already apparent, Ian is a total class act. The first message he posted after regaining control over his Twitter account? A tweet that not only confirmed his followers’ suspicions that he had been hacked, but asked for respect in responding to the invasion of privacy. “Clearly I was hacked, not cool #hacked I'm in the process of finding out who it was-PLEASE be respectful with your comments. Truly respectful!” the real Ian wrote.

This is the second time that Ian’s Twitter handle has been taken over. In 2013, someone hacked into Ian’s account, asked his fans to follow a random account, then began to follow certain Twitter users while blocking others. Ian responded in a similarly gracious, but firmly annoyed manner, tweeting at his hacker: “You are an ass my friend. Get out of my acct...”

The hacker tried to make amends with Ian, writing: “I have nothing but respect for you - was just having a little fun. No hard feelings?” Understandably, Ian did not see this invasion of his personal account as a demonstration of respect, responding: “Really not cool... I appreciate the message though.. Yes please stop. Have a great day.”

Ian takes his social media presence very seriously, seeing it as a way to make positive change and inspire others to do the same. He was recently nominated for The “Green” of the Year at the Shorty Awards. The “Green” of the Year award goes to someone “who speak[s] for the trees that have no tongues.... or fingers to type and tweet with. These green gods and goddesses share the latest scientific findings, advocate for green policy and have a general love for the Earth and those on it.” Ian’s massive Twitter following is one part of that mission to give voice to the voiceless.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
