We know it's been a long hiatus, TVD fans. But with the premiere of The Vampire Diaries Season 5 nearly upon us, we thought it would be a good time to refresh your memory on the basics — starting with the premiere date and time slot. So when does The Vampire Diaries air?
TVD will remain in its usual slot on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET, returning on October 3. Instead of being paired with Beauty and the Beast, one of the CW's most anticipated new shows, Reign, will follow the vampire series starting October 10. (Mystic Falls and 16th Century France all in one night!) So what's being paired with TVD on premiere night? The Originals!
The Originals — The Vampire Diaries’ spin-off starring Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his bloodsucking siblings Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt), as well as werewolf Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and vampire king of the French Quarter, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) — is being paired with TVD for its premiere. Hopefully this will give the freshman series a boost it needs in the ratings. Then, starting October 10, The Originals will air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. It’s being paired with fan-favorite Supernatural, so let’s hope Winchester lovers will be on board with seeing the Original family’s power struggles in New Orleans.
TVD executive producer and Originals creator Julie Plec will be pulling triple duty come fall, because her other new show The Tomorrow People — which follows Robbie Amell’s character as he begins to learn about his startling new abilities — follows Arrow at 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, beginning October 9. That’s two Amells for the price of one! (Stephen and Robbie are cousins.)
