At the annual ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas The Vampire Diaries spoilers and news came in at record numbers! Producer, writer and showrunner Julie Plec and cast member Arielle Kebbel, everybody’s favorite sadly departed Lexi, joined fans for a screening of the Season 4 finale. It was followed by an awesome Q&A session at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Wetpaint was lucky to be on hand for the live event, ready to bring you all the latest scoop.

This past season we heard a lot about the “other side.” But what exactly is it like beyond the veil? Since so many of our favorite characters have been there  -  and some back again  -  it’s not surprising that we would all have questions about what this other side look like. Will we ever see it, or is this a location best left to the imagination? It was a question the writers, says Plec, gave a lot of consideration.

“In our minds, “ offered Plec, “The other side looks just like this world, but Alaric is sitting there and Lexi is sitting there, but he can’t see her and she can’t see him. You’re still in the world, but you’re alone and can’t interact with anyone.”

Yikes, sound a little grim. But don’t worry, folks on the other side aren’t totally without company. “There are some witches floating around that you can hang out with,” jokes Plec. “Maybe Alaric (Matt Davisand Bonnie (Kat Graham) are there, sipping a bourbon.”

As it stands now the writers have no plans to reveal the other side. With so much going on already in Mystic Falls (and the occasional jaunt to New Orleans or New York) there just isn’t any need. Still desperate to get a glimpse at how the other half live?

“There are [cool] ways to show that other side, but that’s all I can say for now,” said Arielle. Consider our curiosity piqued!
