We all shed a tear when Alaric Saltzman lost his life at the end of The Vampire Diaries Season 3, and not just because it meant we wouldn't get to see Matt Davis's face on our TV screens any more. But let's be honest, that was definitely a major bummer. So, what has this fetching star been up to since departing the world of Mystic Falls?

After leaving The Vampire Diaries, Matt Davis kept it within the CW family, taking on a world that was less supernatural, but perhaps even more twisted than Mystic Falls for the 2012-2013 midseason drama Cult, where he played protagonist Jeff Sefton. It was a twisty, confusing mystery show that involved a show-within-a-show and had the makings of a cult (ha!) hit. Unfortunately it failed to catch on — perhaps because of bad marketing —and was quickly axed. The good news is that there 13 episodes of the show out there if you really need your Matt fix.

Even better? It was recently announced that Matt is joining the cast of CSI for a recurring role in the crime procedural's fourteenth season. According to TVLine, he'll play "a smart, athletic and competitive son of a decorated fireman. While on the surface outgoing, he is deep down a bit of a loner, with the soul of a poet and the mind of a mathematician." Interesting. We can't wait to get him back on our small screens!
