The Vampire Diaries has had mixed luck with its teachers. Alaric Saltzman was pretty much the most badass history teacher a high school kid (or vamp) could ask for. Professor Shane, on the other hand, was kind of a major jerk.
So, what’s up with TVD’s newest teacher character, Dr. Wes Maxfield (Rick Cosnett)? TVD executive producer Julie Plec talked to Entertainment Weekly about the mysterious new Season 5 character — here’s what she had to say:
For those who need a refresher, Dr. Wes is a brilliant young microbiology teacher at Whitmore College, where our girls Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) are attending — and have we mentioned he’s a total fox, too?
The freshmen vamps decide relatively quickly that Maxfield has something to hide, and it turns out he’s not too keen on them either. Julie told EW that, when Elena and Caroline manage to charm (or is it compel?) their way into his advanced class, he “calls them out instantly as not belonging, embarrasses them, and sends them slinking away.”
This all goes down in Season 5, Episode 2: “True Lies,” so it sounds like Elena and Caroline aren’t wasting any time delving into the Dr. Wes mystery. What? There weren’t any freshmen mixers to go to?
