The 100th episode is a big deal in any television series’ run as it traditionally marks the point at which the show can successfully enter syndication (i.e. have another network buy it to show as reruns). And hey, it looks like The Vampire Diaries is about to reach the television milestone. Candice Accola (Caroline) chatted to ETonline about when the big episode will happen!

“We’re about to film 5x08 and 5x11 is our 100th episode,” said Candice, which means Season 5, Episode 11 will be the big 1-0-0, and production on the ep is only three episodes away for the cast and crew. Huzzah!

And word on what we can expect from the all-important 100th ep? Well, while Candice said she “would assume” big things will happen in the episode, she is not sure what that might mean: “Honestly, I don’t even know what’s happening in the next episode yet, so I would assume that there’s going to be a lot going on in 5x11, but it’s all under lock and key.” Little hint, Candice: usually, there’s cake.

Candice did seem to like the irony of TVD hitting the big television 1-0-0 while a majority of its cast pretends to be college freshmen: “For all of us to be in Year 5 and about to hit our 100th episode and then to play ‘the freshman,’ it’s been really, really fun,” she said, though admitting that the TVDers in college isn’t so different from the TVDers in high school. “What I love is kind of the joke that all these kids have been in high school, but we never see them in high school, so the transition to college is actually quite simple and isn’t too brutal.”
