The Vampire Diaries’ Season 5 premiere is right around the corner, and We. Can’t. Wait. More specifically, there are a number of moments — both confirmed and merely hoped for — that have us especially anticipating the new season. Here are our top 10!
1. The Bonnie bomb drops
Maybe it’s sadistic, but we’re kind of dying to see the moment when everyone finds out Bonnie is dead — and has been dead for an entire summer. It’s just such a uniquely TVD experience for someone to be able to hide their death for so long by using a ghost medium (aka Jeremy) to keep the ruse going. Apparently, Jeremy has even been corresponding with Elena for Bonnie, and we can only imagine some of the awkward stuff he’s overheard from Elena/has had to transcribe for Bonnie. Needless to say, this reveal is going to come with a lot of follow-up questions.
2. Someone saves Stefan
What? We’re not heartless. And it does break out heart a little bit to think of Stefan continuously drowning at the bottom of a quarry. We’re guessing this moment will come relatively soon in the new season, given that the fang gang seems to figure out quickly that Silas is not Stefan, and we can’t wait for someone to save poor Stefan! We hope it’s Damon. We love when these two share actual moments of brotherly emotion.
3. All the Delena kisses
This is the list equivalent of asking for a thousand more wishes, but we can’t help it! We are looking forward to all of the Delena kisses (and hugs and “I love you”s and sex scenes). Basically, all of the happy Delena — because that concept is so ephemeral and foreign to us.
4. Elena and Caroline do laundry
We don’t think we’ve ever seen these two do anything quite so domestic as laundry — which we see them doing in the Season 5 promo pics. It must have happened — considering these two have either completely absent or often absent parental figures and probably have a lot of blood stains — but we kind of love the idea of these teenage vamps doing something so mundane. We’re so used to watching the Mystic Falls gang engaged in the fantastical, it seems oddly awesome for something so dull to make an appearance on TVD.
5. Jeremy and Damon have a movie night
We can’t wait for the “Jeremy and Damon live together” storyline in general, but we’re in particular hoping for awkward bonding moments: Jeremy and Damon have a movie night; Jeremy and Damon go shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond; Jeremy and Damon share an inside joke about the Salvatore mansion. That sort of thing. Considering that Damon once killed Jeremy, these moments have dramatic potential, as well as comedic.
6. Katherine has a hard time - with everything
After hundreds of years as an immortal creature, Katherine is human again and — from the looks of the promo — she’s not having an easy time of it. We can’t wait to see all of the moments that show Katherine trying (and failing) at simple human activities like making a sandwich or running without superhuman endurance and strength. After witnessing the struggles of so many human-to-vampire transitions, we’re eager to see a vampire-to-human one - especially on someone who has made everyone else’s lives so miserable in the past.
7. Matt gives a slideshow about his Euro-trip
OK, Matt probably won’t give an actual slideshow (though that would be awesome), but we are hoping he has plenty of tales to tell about his summer of European adventuring. There’s something strangely poetic about Matt Donovan having such an epic summer after all of the crap he’s had to put up with from his loved ones in Mystic Falls. Though most of his friends may now be immortal creatures with crazy powers, he is the one who spent the last few months living life to the fullest, and that’s just great.
8. Caroline hates on her new roommate
We love Caroline in snarky hate mode. It’s probably not very fair that Caroline hates her new roommate — considering, as far as we know, it is mostly because she is not Bonnie — but that doesn’t mean we aren’t dying to hear Caroline complain about her. We wouldn’t be surprised if Caroline also enacted some sort of subtle campaign of manipulation and terror in an attempt to get said roommate to vacate the premises. And we can’t wait.
9. Silas does something to the townspeople
While most of our other highly-anticipated moments are on the list because we think they will delight us, this one is all about our piqued curiosity. We’ve heard so much about the ending of the scene that has Silas talking to a town square filled with people about how he wants to test the limits of his powers in the Comic-Con preview. We have also seen Ghost Bonnie screaming at whatever goes down, and have heard talk that it is truly horrific. Basically, we want to know what it is! What could Silas do to shock Bonnie and the critics who have already seen the episode so much?
10. The Gilbert family hugs
And, to end this list on a more heartwarming note, we’re really looking forward (read: hoping for) a Gilbert family hug between siblings Jeremy and Elena. These two had a rough end of Season 4, with Jeremy really, really dead for a good number of episodes and Elena subsequently choosing to switch off her emotions to avoid dealing with his death. It was so sad, and we think all of the viewers deserve a nice, big Gilbert family hug for our suffering. We’re thinking TVD will probably throw one our way - and we’d just like to officially say that we’re looking forward to it.
