It’s no surprise that The Vampire Diaries has one of the best track records for utilizing music to enhance each scene. Being in Season 5, they’ve totally mastered matching up the right tunes with the right moment — and they accomplish one thing: getting us addicted to some new music.
In the Season 5 premiere (“I Know What You Did Last Summer”), viewers were treated to some steamy hookups (we’re looking at you, Delena and Matt, Rebekah, and Nadia), adorable college freshman moments, and a crazy car crash — thank goodness Jeremy is OK. Leave it to the brilliant Christopher Mollere to choose just the right songs to get Season 5 off to a great start.

Lyrics: Got a little soul
The world is a cold, cold place to be
Want a little warmth
But who’s gonna save a little warmth for me?

Lyrics: Hey heart, on the road again
Moving on forward
Stick and stones won't break our bones
We're in the car on the highway

You're out calling, still young, happiness in all.
Scene: Elena and Caroline arrive at their first college party.
Lyrics: I see the place that we belong together.. together.

But you led them to our hideout,
Forced their way inside, now they want us to surrender..us to surrender.

Lyrics: It's another day,
And I suffocate
With no peace of mind
And the forecast tells of a summer storm.
