Tonight’s episode of The Vampire Diaries looks like another action-packed thrill ride as Damon begins the search for Stefan, Caroline and Elena investigate their roomie’s murder, and Jeremy and Matt pull babysitting duty. Here is a roundup of everything we know about tonight’s episode, aka Season 5, Episode 2: “True Lies.”
Sheriff Forbes to the rescue!
According to the episode synopsis, Damon is still withholding the knowledge that Stefan is missing from Elena, but enlists Sheriff Forbes’ help in the search for his suffering baby brother. We doubt Elena’s ignorance lasts, however, given that in the promo for the ep she is seen crying, desperate to find Stefan. Apparently, her ex-boyfriend has been reaching out to her in her dreams.
Nadia resorts to violence
Frankly, we have no idea what Matt’s three-some buddy Nadia is up to, but it sounds like she is upping the intensity level in this week’s episode. According to the episode synopsis, “Nadia uses violence to make a point about her own agenda.” Could it be related to this spoiler pic of Matt facedown on the floor of some swanky building? Nadia better not harm a hair on Matt’s pretty little head!
Bonnie’s charade continues
While now might not be the best time to try to reason with Bonnie what with the slaughter of her father in front of her eyes, Jeremy is still trying to convince Bon to tell her loved ones that she’s dead. According to the synopsis, Jer “struggles to return to his old life … but he can’t convince [Bonnie] that it’s time to let the others know that she sacrificed her own life for his.” This kid’s got a lot on his plate this week!
Katherine is sick
Call in the National Guard! Katherine Pierce is sick, and she doesn’t seem to be taking it well. In this sneak peek for the episode, we see Katherine describing her symptoms to Jeremy and Matt who seem to have earned babysitting duty while Silas is on the hunt for the human-again doppelganger. If you’re picking up on an ominous tone in this clip, you’re probably onto something. According to the episode synopsis, “the situation quickly spirals out of control.” Yikes!
No more sex for Tyler
In this sneak peek for the episode, Caroline informs Elena that as Tyler is deferring both enrolling at Whitmore and returning her phone calls, she is deferring ever having sex with him again. Ouch. We can’t say we don’t blame her, though.
Investigation into Megan’s connection to Elena’s dad
In the same sneak peek, we see that as the Whitmore College campus sets up a memorial outside of Elena and Caroline’s dorm for their vampire-slaughtered roomie, Megan, they launch an investigation into how the deceased girl knew Elena’s dad. So far, it seems they have made no substantial progress. Will Damon come to help? We thought he was busy with his Stefan search, but in this spoiler pic we see he and Caroline at a college party. Is this part of the Stefan search or the Whitmore College conspiracy investigation?
Meet Dr. Wes Maxfield and his “dark and dangerous secret”
Elena and Caroline are also trying to figure out who is covering up Megan’s murder, and their search leads them to Dr. Wes Maxfield, a brilliant young microbiology professor. Rick Cosnett, the actor playing Dr. Wes, describes his character as “a jerk,” andaccording to the episode synopsis, college guy Jesse shares some “intriguing information” about the prof. Is Dr. Wes covering Megan’s murder? And what else might he be hiding?
Stefan is still suffering
Meanwhile, at the bottom of the quarry, Stefan is still hallucinating convos with his big brother - which would be kind of sweet, if Hallucination Damon wasn’t all, “Sucks that you did something nice by leaving so Elena and I could be happy, and you ended up perpetually drowning at the bottom of a quarry.” Or something like that. Real Damon feels the same way, guilty about the summer of bliss he enjoyed whilst Stefan was suffering. desperate to find her ex-boyfriend.
