Did you get as teary as we did watching Bonnie (Kat Graham) break down in Matt’s arms in last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries? This witch has a lot to deal with, including her own death and watching her father’s throat get cut by Silas. And, according to Kat, there is more vulnerable Bonnie where that came from.

When she first read Bonnie’s death, Kat said she was shocked that she actually stayed dead — but became excited when she realized the new arc for her character: “I was excited because I could explore new things with the character that I never thought I'd be able to explore. I don't know how many times I'm going to be playing a dead witch after this show, you know what I mean?” she told Zap2it.

For Bonnie, it is a hard transition — not only from being alive to being dead, but from having powers to being relatively powerless. "You're going to see a character who is already vulnerable because her powers got taken away, but I also think you're going to see a side to her that's a bit more powerless,” she added.

As Bonnie confessed in last night’s ep, she’s not yet ready to accept her death and, therefore, to tell others. Kat expanded upon Bonnie’s desire for things to be different, for her death to not be real. "She's wanting things to change and realizing the reality of the situation she's in now. I think where the character was before emotionally is the same mentality that she's had over the past few seasons which was, 'It's okay, it's going to work out, I can fix this, let's just let the water settle and it'll figure itself out.'”

But it doesn’t seem like that will be happening — at least not anytime soon. Instead of Bonnie returning to the land of the living, we will be granted peeks into the mysterious, but much-talked about “Other Side.”

"It was always a mystery when we were shooting it. It was like, 'Alaric went to the Other Side but he's back now but he was there for a minute,'” Kat shared. “But now you'll actually get to see it. The way they do it is actually always how I imagined the Other Side so I can't really say what that is. But it's an interesting scenario and you get to see scenes on the Other Side. It's really cool. It's where I've been living. I'm excited for people to see it."

Any familiar faces we might see over there? Kat wouldn’t reveal any names, but did say she would be getting scenes with people other than Jeremy and we’re “going to see a couple of characters, one in particular that will surprise you.” Bring on the dead-and-presumed-gone TVD characters!
