Silas (Paul Wesley) has a super secret plan on Season 5 of The Vampire Diaries, and he’s not letting anyone in on what it might be. We know he needs Katherine and has teamed up with Nadia to enact it, but other than that,  we’re left to speculate as to what it might be. Our money is on some sort of scheme to resurrect the Original Doppelganger, aka Silas’ first love. Here’s why!

Because that has always been his plan

OK, maybe it hasn’t always been Silas’ plan to resurrect his lady love (because, most of the time, she was still alive), but it was his plan to keep his love alive forever. The story goes that warlock Silas went to Qetsiyah, a super powerful witch/his BFF, to help create an immortality spell. Qetsiyah helped him because she thought Silas would also make her immortal. Turns out, Silas was actually planning on make his girlfriend immortal all along. So, Qetsiyah allegedly killed Silas’ girlfriend, and entombed Silas. Harsh, but arguably understandable.

Because he needs Katherine

Word on the street is that Silas’ first love looks a lot like Elena, which would mean she was the Original Doppelganger (not Middle Ages Tatia, as was previously assumed). This makes Silas’ desire to find Katherine quite suspicious. We’re not well versed on the magical spells of TVD, but it makes some sense that Silas would be able to trade one doppelganger’s life for another. As Elena is now a vampire and, therefore, technically has no life, Katherine is the only option. Sorry, Kath!

Because it’s just like Season 1

We’ve been hearing a lot about how Season 5 is a lot like Season 1. You know what Season 1 had? A plot hatched by a handsome villain (in this case, Damon) to resurrect the Petrova doppelganger he loved and thought long buried (in this case, Katherine) using whatever means necessary. Is Season 5 following this same formula, but in this case, Silas is the villain and the Original Doppelganger is his first love? Perhaps! The best part is, if this formula is followed through to fruition, it would mean that Silas’ love never died and has been gallivanting around the world as an immortal while her boyfriend dessicated in his tomb. We doubt TVD would pull the same twist twice, but it would be fun to meet a 2,000-years-wise version of the Petrova doppelganger.
