It’s hard to believe that The Vampire Diaries has finally reached the coveted 100th episode mark, but the television landmark is right around the corner! TVD showrunner Julie Plec took to Twitter in the wee hours of the morning today to update fans and followers on the completion of the 100th script.

Well s—t. So much for getting back on a normal schedule. throwing in the towel after being up for 21 hours and still not done w my homework,” Julie tweeted just past 3 a.m. this morning. Julie may not have finished her “homework,” but she did finish the 100th script!

“Happily, @carolinedries and I finished the script for the TVD 100th episode, and Team Originals nailed the script for 109,” Julie tweeted a few minutes later.

The 100th episode of a television show is celebrated because, traditionally, it marks the point at which the series become available to sell into syndication (i.e. to a cable network to show as reruns). There is usually much fanfare behind-the-scenes of the production, and sometimes some exciting events on-screen. Last month, Candice Accola had this to say about the upcoming 100th episode: “Honestly, I don’t even know what’s happening in the next episode yet, so I would assume that there’s going to be a lot going on in 5x11, but it’s all under lock and key.”

Apparently, Julie had some time to reflect on the celebratory gravity of this moment, tweeting this before she went to bed: “100 episodes. Let's just think about that for a moment while I wait for the melatonin to kick in.” Congratulations, TVD! We can’t wait to see what you’ve come up with for the big 1-0-0.
