Good news, Vampire Diaries fans! The ratings for Season 5, Episode 3 (“Original Sin”) are in, and they’re stellar!

Of course, it’s only fitting that one of the series best episodes (ever!) drove the ratings to new heights. In fact, “Original Sin” was TVD’s highest rated episode of Season 5!

So how did this week compare to last week? The Vampire Diaries viewership increased by 30 percent to 2.8 million viewers and a 1.3 in the coveted 18-49 demo, besting both ABC’s freshman series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and NBC’s entire 8 o’clock comedy hour!

Whoa. Talk about impressive! Nearly three million people tuned in to watch Qetsiyah and Silas’s complicated history unfold. However, not everyone stayed around to meet a young Mary, Queen of Scots. The CW’s new series Reign debuted to so-so numbers. While it lost more than 30 percent of its TVD lead-in, it’s 0.8 rating is on par with last year’s series premiere of Beauty and the Beast.

The fate of Reign may be TBD, but we know one thing: The vampires are here to stay!

Are you happy with these ratings? Sound off in the comments!

Catch the next episode of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW, followed by Reign.
