The Vampire DiariesNina Dobrev (Elena) and Candice Accola (Caroline) spoke to Savannah College of Art and Design students about life as a television actor over the weekend. According to SavannahNow.com, the TVDers also had a few things to say about the show’s more mature tone this season. Read on to find out their thoughts on Season 5!

“The show really took a shift this year and it’s grown up,” Nina said. “It’s growing and evolving as we are, as people and as actors. It’s been fun to see that evolution. The show hasn’t lost it’s flare and I still love going to work everyday.”

We definitely agree with Nina’s summary of the show’s unique vibe this season. Though it continues to have all of the zany plot twists and supernatural escapism we have always loved about the show, the characters have learned from many of their earlier mistakes and the tempered decision-making has made for a more “grown up” feel overall.

It will be interesting to see how that tone is reflected in the 100th episode of TVD, set to start filming in Atlanta today. The TVD cast has been together for five years now and, according to Candice, that collective experience has complemented the actors’ respective individual maturations: “It’s a huge accomplishment for television,” Candice said. “We’ve worked as a family for five years, we’ve grown together professionally and it’s a really exciting time to be a part of the series.” We can’t wait to check out the 100th episode, aka Season 5, Episode 11, and to see what else TVD has to offer in its “grown up” fifth season!
