We can’t wait to see how the relationship between mother-daughter duo  Katherine (Nina Dobrev) and Nadia (Olga Fonda) progresses moving forward, especially because in the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries (Season 5, Episode 7: “Death and the Maiden”), a dying Katherine pretty much told Nadia to forget about her. Nina spoke to TV Line about the family dynamic, and she says it’s going to be a struggle.

“It is going to be a little bit of a power struggle between the two of them because Katherine is her mother and she feels entitled,” Nina said. “Now that she’s weaker, [Nadia] is fighting to take care of her and have her in her life, but Katherine keeps doing things to piss her off. She’s just not good at thinking about other people. She’s having to learn that with [Nadia]. But you learn that she actually does want to have that relationship. She just keeps screwing it up.”

Aw, we’re actually starting to feel bad for Katherine. She’s eschewed actual human connection for so long in her attempts at self-preservation, that she doesn’t know how to act when she wants to have a loving relationship with her own daughter.

Hopefully, Nadia is a patient vamp and isn’t too invested in this “protecting Katherine” thing. Given Katherine late-onset aging, we’re not sure if Nadia has the skill set to keep her mom safe. But, you never know! Nadia is a Traveler. Maybe she knows the cure for The Cure.

Are you as excited to see more Katherine and Nadia’s mother-daughter struggles as we are? Do you think these two will ever find a way to connect? Sound off in the comments below!
