With the 100th episode rapidly approaching, we’re clinging to every spoiler about the milestone episode that we can find. Luckily ClevverTV caught up with the mastermind behind it all, Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec, to talk 100th episode spoilers. Though Julie was mum about most of the details surrounding Season 5, Episode 11 (“500 Years of Solitude”), she did let some details slip — praise the TV gods!

“We are a big family here. We have a lot of favorites. We have a lot of people whom we love deeply who have died who are, you know, trapped on the Other Side; who have left the show to do other things; and the characters who have left Mystic Falls to do other things,” Julie said, outlining all of the possible guest stars in the much-anticipated episode. For the TVD creative team, the 100th episode was as much about honoring those beloved former characters as it was progressing the storyline forward (though we’re sure they managed to do both — they’re impressive like that).

“We definitely wanted to celebrate some of them and acknowledge how much we love some of them, so there may be a couple friendly faces that, you know, drop in whether it be in flashback or whatever over the course of the episode. It’s a nice sort of trip down memory lane, for sure,” Julie continued.

We already know that Sara Canning (Aunt Jenna) will return for the episode and it seems likely that Joseph Morgan’s (Klaus Mikaelson) appearance will coincide with the climactic ep — but we doubt they’ll be the only familiar faces in town. If our theory is correct, the episode will be a sort of retrospective of the life of Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev), aka the witty woman who is human again after 500 years of vampirism. If this theory is true, then most of the returning characters will probably appear in flashback form, but — hey! — we’ll take what we can get.

One theory Julie ruled out is that the episode is centered around a recent holiday celebration: “It is not Thanksgiving dinner. That would have been good, though,” she said, when asked about the possibility. Christmas is still up for grabs though, right?

Which familiar faces do you think will be appearing in the 100th episode? Do you think they will be in flashback or present-day form? Share your theories in the comments below!
