Candice Accola plays Type A vamp Caroline Forbes on The Vampire Diaries — and she is pretty perfect for the role. How did the young actress land the breakthrough part? Candice opened up to the Savannah Film Festival about the process of finding the role of Caroline!

“I got the part of Caroline Forbes because I didn’t get other parts before her,” Candice confesses in a video aimed at acting students looking for their big break. “Something that I love about auditioning is, even if you’re being told no, most of the time it just means not yet. As long as you’re getting in the room and you’re testing for things, you’re having producer sessions, you’re meeting directors, if the casting directors keeps bringing you in over and over again, you’re in the right place. They want you. Just not for that role yet. They’re just trying to find a place for you.”

Candice is seriously impressing us with her honesty and depth in this vid, speaking frankly and inspiringly to other actors looking to make the same jump from student to professional that she did with TVD. Can we please get a whole series of vid of Candice giving life advice? Because we would totally watch that.

What other advice did Candice have for aspiring actors? She encouraged them to ask questions, and be patient with the process. “Don’t be afraid of having questions and don’t be afraid to seek the answers and don’t feel like you have to know everything right away. Always enjoy being a student and don’t let that go,” Candice said. Wise words from a promising young actress. We love her!

Do you think Candice’s advice is good? Are you as glad as we are she was chosen for the role of Caroline Forbes? Sound off in the comments below!
