We’re dreading the maybe-death of Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) in the 100th episode of The Vampire Diaries — and we’re not the only ones. It sounds like a certain brooding vampire will be by the 500-year-old human’s side. Is it too much to hope for some deathbed-side confessions of love between Katherine and Stefan (Paul Wesley)?

According to executive producer Caroline Dries, Stefan is pretty much the only TVDer all torn up about Katherine’s death. She told TVLine: “[Katherine] doesn't have a huge fan base at the Salvatore house where she is, so Stefan is the person who's there for her.”

So, perhaps not a confession of love, but we’ll take what we can get! Besides, we need someone who acts as our gateway character for all of the feels surrounding Katherine’s potential death. She has arguably been the most compelling character of Season 5 (and one of the most entertaining TVD characters ever), so to see her go will make us very, very sad. If none of the characters were to mirror that sentiment, we might find that frustrating (if not understandable).

But will Katherine really die? Jury’s still out on that particular verdict. On the one hand, we can see the show making a major move like that for the milestone 100th episode. For a series about characters who continually cheat death, watching the most self-preservationist of them all die would be jaw-dropping.

On the other hand, Katherine is also one of the best things TVD has going for it right now. It would be kind of insane to throw that away, even if it did make a statement in the climactic episode. We, for one, are eager to see the Katherine character (and the Steferine relationship) continue to evolve. Might the show give us the chance?

Do you think Katherine will really die? If so, how do you think Stefan will handle it? Sound off in the comments below!
