We’re officially a week away from the 100th episode extravaganza of The Vampire Diaries — and we’re getting more and more anxious about the possibility of Katherine (Nina Dobrev) dying in the milestone ep. At this week’s TCA Press Tour, CW boss Mark Pedowitz gave us some hope that this might not be the end for one of our favorite characters.

"I am not allowed to discuss plot points for Julie Plec, but come and watch," Mark said, according to E! Online. "You might be surprised. The 100th episode is quite interesting." Surprised as in: Katherine’s not going to die? Or surprised as in: wow, we didn’t think that many characters would cry over Katherine’s tragic demise. We can’t take this hiatus suspense!

It makes us mighty nervous that Katherine’s name isn’t mentioned in the official synopses for Season 5, Episode 12 (“The Devil Inside”) or Season 5, Episode 13 (“Total Eclipse of the Heart”), but that could just be a ploy to keep us guessing. (If so, mission accomplished.) We suppose we’ll just have to wait until next Thursday to find out.

And it sounds like we have much to look forward to no matter how the episode ends. We’ll get to see Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning) back on the TVD screen for the first time since her death in Season 3 — and she won’t be the only familiar face making an appearance. Also on the itinerary: some “scandalous” behavior from Caroline, a walk down memory lane, and some Steferine solidarity. We are so there.

Do you think Katherine will die? How else might the episode surprise us? Share your theories in the comments below!

Catch the next episode of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW, followed by an all-new episode of Reign.
