Which Vampire Diaries star will be starring in FOX’s new series, Gracepoint? According to Deadline, the supernaturally handsome Kendrick Sampson has snagged a role in the much-anticipated new drama based on British import, Broadchurch! Kendrick starred as TVD’s Jesse, aka the hunky lab assistant turned vampire cannibal who Caroline was crushing on until Elena staked him. Hopefully, he fares better on this show...

Gracepoint is a remake of the hugely-popular British murder mystery drama, Broadchurch. The 10-hour series will tell the story of how a small town reacts when one of their own, 11-year-old Danny, is murdered. David Tennant (Doctor Who) will keep his role from Broadchurch as the detective in charge of the case, but the rest of the cast for Gracepoint has been recast, with the series creators promise an ending different from the one explored on Broadchurch.

The TVD alum will be playing Dean Iverson, a local boy who “works shifts oystering, bussing tables at his uncle’s restaurant, and saving money with the hopes of going to community college.” Oh yeah, and he also happens to be dating Chloe, Danny’s older sister, much to the chagrin of her parents.

“I’m super stoked about getting to work with such a high caliber of talent from top to bottom,” Kendrick told Just Jared Jr. “The list of top tier talented writers, cast, crew, show runners, producers, network execs and casting seems is just under a mile long. I’m honored and humbled.”

“Oh man! Can’t wait to get to work with all of these amazing individuals!” Kendrick continued. “I don’t even want to start to list names of all of the phenomenal talent in front and behind the scenes. Literally everyone is widely well respected … and that’s an understatement. I’m humbled and grateful!”

We can’t wait to see Kendrick sink his teeth into another role. He was thoroughly charming and impressively complex for a character who only stuck around for a few episodes of TVD. We hope he gets more to do in Gracepoint, which — if it is anything like its source material — will be a compelling and tragic look at what happens to the residents of a small town when it is  struck with tragedy. So, just like TVD!

Catch the next episode of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW, followed by an all-new episode of Reign.
