We’ll be the first to admit, we didn’t always see eye to eye with Tyler Lockwood. After all, he wasn’t the most likeable character in Season 1. But, we’re starting to really feel bad for The Vampire Diaries’ lone wolf. Not only did his plan to destroy Klaus fail (and he had to come back to Mystic Falls with his tail between his legs), but also has to deal with the fact his ex Caroline hooked up with his mortal enemy. Ouch! So what's coming up for Tyler in Season 5?
"He's going to struggle," Julie Plec told E! Online. "He's back, his revenge attempt failed, he doesn't really know what he's supposed to be doing with himself. He's not in college, he split with Caroline, Matt Donovan is living in his house. [Laughs.] So it's a journey for him to find his way."
We’re hoping this means there are plenty of Matt and Tyler bro moments to look forward to this season. So far, both characters have been severely underused this season, and we’d love to see them both take a journey of self discovery. Matt, being the only human, and Tyler, being the only werewolf, make quite the Mystic Falls pair!
Plus, Tyler can at least be comforted by the fact Caroline and Klaus’s hook up was a one time affair. According to Plec, Klaus and Caroline’s romp in the woods was closure for the storyline — at least for now. “It felt like we've never been able to, because of the spinoff, fully deliver on what the next layer of their story would be,” Julie told E! Online. “And it was always in our minds to figure out a way to pay that off and the 100th episode seemed like the most appropriate time to do it.”
She continued: “Also, in a way, Caroline's journey on The Vampire Diaries this year has been she's got a lot of opinions and she's very open and honest about her feelings about Elena's feelings for Damon, and I think this is a way of making herself look in the mirror and say, ‘Oh gosh, I understand now.’”
It looks like there are growing pains in store for everyone in Mystic Falls.
