We know Klaroline fans are passionate, but it looks like Klaus and Caroline’s short-lived attraction on The Vampire Diaries isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec recently told The Hollywood Reporter that the coupling isn’t very “realistic” right now, but “that doesn't mean in life there aren't opportunities.”

"Klaus made a promise that he wouldn't return [to Mystic Falls], Caroline was very clear she's got other plans,” the EP said. “She's got some stuff she's got to deal with, he's got some stuff he's got to deal with. The plans to cross paths with them right now don't seem very realistic but that doesn't mean in life there aren't opportunities.”

With Klaus in the middle of World War III between the vampires and the witches in New Orleans, and Caroline struggling to adjust to normal college life at Whitmore, a romance doesn’t seem very likely right now. But, that doesn’t mean there isn’t hope for Klaroline in the future.

After the The Vampire Diaries celebrated its 100th episode (with a Klaus and Caroline’s romp in the woods), Julie Plec revealed that Klaus and Caroline’s romp in the woods was closure for the storyline — at least for now. “It felt like we've never been able to, because of the spinoff, fully deliver on what the next layer of their story would be,” Julie told E! Online. “And it was always in our minds to figure out a way to pay that off and the 100th episode seemed like the most appropriate time to do it.”

She continued: “The thing is Klaus has got a lot going on on The Originals, and somewhere in there there's room for a little bit of romance down the road. Really, this was more about giving that storyline the ending, I guess, for now at least, that it needed, that it didn't have yet.”

While the news isn’t what Klaroline fans want to hear, that doesn’t mean the Powers That Be won’t find a way for these two characters to come together in the future. With so much going down on both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, there’s not much room for romance for either of these two characters. So don't give up hope, Klaroline fans!
