Vampire Diaries frenemies Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) have always had their differences, but it sounds like villainous-again Damon is about to take their simmering contention to one another to the next level. Will Damon go after Caroline?!

"Caroline will focus her attention on finding out what this virus is capable of," Candice told TV Guide, which means she will be heading towards the vampire cannibal and not away from him. Yikes! We just hope Caroline knows what she’s doing. Maybe that 15 minutes of Dr. Wes’ upperclassmen microbiology class really paid off.

To be honest, we’re totally on board with this storyline. Not only will it give Caroline a chance to step away from the shredder and focus her attentions on saving the vampire world or whatever, but it might also bring to the forefront whatever feels have been going on between her and Stefan. We’re not necessarily saying they’re romantic, but these two besties totally love one another. Is it so wrong that we want to see more scenes of them hugging — shirtless, or otherwise? Yeah, didn’t think so.

As for the capabilities of the virus, we wouldn’t be surprised if things are going to get a lot worse before they get better, given that the Travelers and their buckets o’ doppelganger blood are involved. According to Candice: "We're [also] going to have a big wake-up call to the new mythology we've slowly gotten to learn about over the season with the Travelers, as well as the who, the what and the why of it all." How connected are these two storylines? And what will Damon do when Caroline tries to get to the bottom of this virus? Fangs where we can see them, Damon!

Are you as excited at the prospect of Scientist Caroline as we are? How bad do you think this whole vampire cannibalism thing will get? Sound off in the comments below!
