From what we can tell, the Vampire Diaries crew is about to wisen up to Katherine’s on-going deception any episode now, but that’s only one half of the current problem facing our girl Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev). Once the TVDers realize Katherine is possessing Elena’s body, how do they get Elena’s consciousness back?

We’re not really sure where Elena currently is, but wherever it is, it’s going to involve some supernatural finagling for her friends to get her back. It will also most likely involve a Traveler, given that it is Traveler magic that allow for one Traveler to possess another person’s body as his or her passenger, and it was a Traveler who banished Elena from her own body by doing some kind of spell involving the burning of Katherine body. Basically: Travelers.

Luckily, there seem to be a lot of Travelers about these days. There was a whole gang of them in town to draw two buckets of doppelganger blood from Elena and Stefan in Season 5, Episode 11, and there will be a whole troop trapping Damon and Enzo inside of some house in the next episode. Might the TVDers be able to convince a wayward one to help with their plan? Perhaps, with the promise of more doppelganger blood? They seem to like that stuff.

Another potential factor in Project Bring Back Elena is the Other Side. Again, we’re not sure where Elena is, but it’s a possibility that her consciousness is hanging on the Other Side with all of the dead supernatural beings who have passed before her. This would be a cool twist because, as anchor to the Other Side, Bonnie might be able to help out with Elena’s quasi-resurrection. And we’re always for Bonnie being helpful.

However it goes down, Elena may be back inside her own bod before we know it, and we’ll be contemplating the next question: How will she react to everything Damon has done in her absence?

How do you think the gang will get Elena back? Share your theories in the comments below!
