Seeing as Matt Donovan is the token human in Mystic Falls, his life is constantly in danger. But with Nadia looming, we’re more than a little worried for our quarterback’s safety.

On the most recent episode of The Vampire Diaries (Season 5, Episode 13 — “Total Eclipse of the Heart”), Matt figured out Katherine was a passenger in Elena’s body. Unfortunately for him, Nadia got to him before he could tell Tyler the truth. Now she needs to drain him — to rid his body of the vervain — and compel him to forget everything. But is it possible Nadia will kill Matt to keep her mother’s existence a secret? Or will she put her own feelings for Matt above her mother’s survival?

“Nadia, like Katherine, has always had a little thing for Matt. Maybe it just got passed through the genes,” TVD executive producer Caroline Dries told TVLine. “To Nadia, Matt is human. He’s just a good guy. He’s everything that Nadia’s not, although she might actually be good if she wasn’t so hellbent on finding her mom throughout time. So she can’t help but feel like Matt is this good person, like a wounded puppy. She’s not sure what to do with him. He’s also harboring this huge secret now, and she doesn’t want to kill him, but she will if she has to.”

We have a hard time believing Nadia would really kill Matty Blue Eyes. (Did their tryst in Prague mean nothing?) However, we know Nadia’s first priority is her mother. “As Katherine is outed by our friends — the show’s heroes — her relationship with Nadia becomes the most important thing in her life,” Dries teased.

So it looks like it’s going to be the Petrovas vs. the world when Katherine’s secret is revealed, and luckily for Matt, he’s out of harms way for now. Unless, of course, Katherine needs a new passenger… Now, that would be an interesting twist!
