Our hearts broke when we learned about the tragic death of Sarah Jones. The young camera assistant was a part of the Vampire Diaries family and tragically passed away on the set of Midnight Rider in Savannah, Georgia — and her TV family has been rallying around her ever since.

Not only have the Vampire Diaries cast paid tribute in her memory (and defended the focus she’s stirred up), but they also campaigned to get her name added to the “In Memoriam” segment of the 2014 Academy Awards. Her name was recognized at the end of Season 5, Episode 14 (“No Exit”) — but the real task was to get her name front-and-center at the biggest night in Hollywood.

We’re happy to announce that the campaign was successful! Sarah Jones may not have been featured in the emotional segment, but just before the show went to a commercial break, she was prominently featured at the bottom of the screen along with a photo and a link to the full list of those we lost last year.

Co-executive producer Caroline Dries took to Twitter to share her feels right after the moment passed, simply saying, “Thank you, Oscars.” In addition to Caroline speaking out, Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy Gilbert) and Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood) also hit up their social media accounts to share their excitement.

We’re so glad the Academy listened and featured Sarah in the “In Memoriam” segment. The world is a good place.

Hit the comments and let us know if you’re surprised Sarah Jones was featured at the Oscars!
