Katherine Pierce finally met her end on the most recent episode of The Vampire Diaries (Season 5 Episode 15 — “Gone Girl”), but she didn’t go quietly. In fact, before she died, she injected herself with Dr. Wes’ vampire ripper virus, meaning that Elena is now a ripper. Oh Katherine, you’re always one step ahead, aren’t you?

So how did it all go down? In the end, Katherine thought of someone other than herself and came to Nadia’s side during her final moments. In the end, Nadia died from Tyler’s hybrid bite, but at least she passed to the Other Side knowing Katherine loved her. We’re still wiping our tears after their heartbreaking goodbye. Katherine Pierce may not show it very often, but she does have a heart.

Unfortunately, Stefan stabbed right through it with the Traveler dagger, ending the elusive Katherine Pierce’s life once and for all — well, maybe. When Katherine went to pass through Bonnie to the Other Side, she discovered that she couldn’t. Then, she was swept away into the cold, dark night. It’s unclear what actually happened. If Katherine couldn’t pass through, does that mean she actually went to hell? Or does her doppelganger blood permit her from crossing over to the Other Side? More importantly, does this mean we haven’t see the last of Katherine Pierce?

We’re going to go with the latter. This is Katherine we’re talking about, after all. She’s a survivor — in life and death.
