The next all-new episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 5, Episode 18 (“Resident Evil”) — also happens to mark the directorial debut of star Paul Wesley (Stefan). What did Paul tell E! Online is his absolute favorite scene from the episode?

According to Katherine Pierce, everyone loves Matt Donovan, and that seems to include Paul. His favorite scene from his directorial debut episode features the blue-eyed bartender: "There's a scene between Matt and someone else that I can't name and there's a whole sequence and it's a beautiful sequence," he divulged. "It's very action-packed. I really enjoyed it."

We think we may have gotten a glimpse at the scene in question during this promo for upcoming episodes of Season 5 -- and we can’t wait to see it. Matt’s mystery co-star: Kol Mikaelson(Nathaniel Buzolic). Kol has been dead since Season 4, but given all the spoilers concerning the Other Side we’ve been hearing recently, we’re not so surprised to see him make a return appearance. But what will these two fellas be up to?

In the promo, we see Matt grabbing Kol by his shirt. He seems to be looking for answers, and Kol unsurprisingly does not seem cooperative. In the only other shot we get from the scene, we see Matt pulling a female character through the woods, still on the Other Side. Is he trying to bring someone back from the supernatural purgatory. If so, who? It’s hard to tell given that everybody on this show has a similar silhouette, tall and slender, but our hopeful money is on Nadia. Not only because it looks like it might be her in the promo, but because Paul called the sequence “beautiful.” Was he just referring to the heavily saturated look of the scene, or to the emotional resonance that would come with a Matt/Nadia reunion?

What do you think is going down in this sequence? What scene are you most looking forward to in Episode 18? Sound off in the comments below!
