The Vampire Diaries returns tonight with Paul Wesley’s (Stefan Salvatore) directorial debut — Season 5, Episode 18 (“Resident Evil”) — an episode heavy on the Stelena as the former lovebirds share intimate visions of one another. If that plot development isn’t enough to ensure tuning in, then the Easter Eggs Paul left for fans within the dream sequences might do the trick. And just in time for Easter, too!

"There's an interesting thing I did in some of the visions, and I wonder if anyone will pick up on it," Wesley told Zap2it. "It's not like a big deal, and I don't want to sound pretentious but there's kind of an interesting theme in the vision sequences that I'll be curious to see if anyone picks up on. It's a fun little clue for the fans." Our eyes are officially peeled, Paul.

As for the nature of the visions within the narrative itself, Paul was tight-lipped about why they were happening and how they might affect our heroes. He did reveal: "I can't tease much other than the fact that these dreams are not just arbitrary or random dreams. There is a reason behind these dreams and they all lead to one conclusive thing that occurs at the end of the episode."

We’re not surprised to hear there will be action until the very end of tonight’s episode. From the sound of things, the installment is chock full of goings-on (as is the TVD way): "It's funny how complex my episode was," Paul said of the episode. "I had like two different crews going on two different days, I had stunts, I had a 50-foot blue screen, I had VFX, I had flashbacks, I had harness work, I made somebody disappear midair. I was incredibly grateful that they entrusted me with all of that." As are we — and we can’t wait to see the result!
