Damon (Ian Somerhalder) hasn’t given up his search for bestie Enzo in this sneak peek from Thursday’s episode of Vampire Diariesmuch to Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) chagrin. In the clip from Season 5, Episode 20 (“What Lies Beneath”), Damon has commandeered Luke to perform a locator spell, unbeknownst to both that Enzo is totally dead. Talk about a wasted afternoon!

The clip begins with Luke getting his locator spell on from the Salvatore couch — and his chanting is totally annoying Damon. So, like the mature vampire he is, Damon throws an ice cube at the collegiate witch. It hits. “That’s not helping,” a frustrated Luke says without opening his eyes.

“Well, you’ve been failing now for an hour, wonder twin, so — at this point — I can’t imagine it’s hurting,” Damon responds, launching another ice cube as Stefan enters the room. He makes kind of an uncharacteristically cruel jab about how, even though Damon is out of friend, “I’m not sure this guy’s the best replacement.” We love how they conduct this conversation as if Luke wasn’t even in the room.

Damon doesn’t think Luke is the best at anything — given that he’s been at this locator spell thing for hours and still hasn’t found Enzo. That gets Stefan’s attention since he’s trying to keep Enzo’s murder literally-if-not-figuratively at his hand a secret.

Stefan tries to play it casually: “Enzo? Didn’t he go to Cape Horn?” Damon’s not buying it, arguing that — since Enzo’s humanity switch was flipped — there “should have been a body count all the way to the airport.” Riiight, we knew Stefan forgot something in his carefully-planned cover-up that involved telling Elena and Bonnie.

Luke tells Damon that, he should have been able to find Enzo by now, implying that there must be a reason he is un-locatable. Stefan jumps in: “Well, maybe he hired a witch to block whatever Luke’s doing. Is that possible?”

“A cloaking spell? I guess,” Luke concedes. Phew!

“That would mean that he doesn’t want to be found, so why don’t you just drop it?” Stefan suggest as the clip ends. Yeah, we don’t see that happening anytime soon. Sorry, Stef!

How long do you think it will take Damon to discover the truth? And are you as excited to see Luke doing magic as we are? Sound off in the comments below!
