Wondering what to expect when you’re expecting to ugly-cry through the entirety of the Vampire Diaries season finale? You’ve come to the right place! We’ve gathered up what we know about the Season 5 finale so that you might be prepared with the adequate number of tissues. Here’s what to expect from Season 5, Episode 22 (“Home”).

It will end with a major cliffhanger. Michael Malarkey (Enzo) told The Hollywood Reporter that the episode “has such a good cliffhanger that's going to have everybody squealing.” He even went so far as to say it would leave the viewers “speechless.” Speechless? We’ll consider that a challenge.

Three permanent deaths. Three characters will die for good in the Season 5 finale. As in: no more haunting, hanging out on the Other Side, or evading death by turning anchor. Who might the deaths be? We have our suspicions.

Damon is donning his “hero hair.” Executive producer Julie Plec said that Damon would be donning his “hero hair” for the episode, and Ian Somerhalder told E! Online: “The ending, I think, is really gonna throw people and it definitely involves Damon in a very cool way,” Ian teased. “I’m actually excited to see what happens.” Will Damon be able to redeem all of the terrible things he’s done this year? We shall see.

Damon will have “a moment” with another lady. Ian told TV Guide that “it will be Damon's big moment with another lady in Mystic Falls that will have people talking after the finale airs.” We somehow doubt he means this in the romantic sense, and we wonder if he might be referring to Bonnie. After all, she too is set to make an immense sacrifice in the Season 5 finale. Might these two sacrifice themselves together?

Favorite friends from the past. Executive producer Caroline Dries told Zap2it: "The finale will be emotional," adding: "We'll get to see a lot of our favorite friends from the past possibly pop in.” Sign us up! On our wishlist: Alaric, Lexi, and Katherine. Make it happen, show!

Tyler might be back? We thought that Tyler was banished from his body for good, but this promo photo from the season finale shows Michael Trevino in chains while seemingly in the custody of the Travelers. Did they chain the hybrid up because Tyler surfaced again? If Julian were in control, the chains would be unnecessary, no? Or are the strangers holding Tyler hostage not Travelers at all?

Everything will go wrong. Caroline also teased: “Basically, every place on the show where s—t can possibly go wrong, it goes wrong. Just when you think, oh it can't get worse than that, it does." Basically, buckle up, people. It doesn’t sound like things will go well for our heroes.

It’s game-changing. Whatever goes down in the Season 5 finale, TVD will never be the same. Paul Wesley (Stefan) told TV Guide: "[The finale] definitely establishes new parameters in the environment we'll be shooting in Season 6," Paul said. "They reset things in a way, and the writers have the ability to now change the circumstances and locations of where the show takes place."
