We thought we were ready to watch the deaths roll in during the Season 5 finale of The Vampire Diaries, but when two characters bit the dust during an emotional final scene, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. When Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) held hands as they were sucked into whatever lies beyond the Other Side, all of the feels started to happen.

Almost every character made their way to the Other Side during Season 5, Episode 22 (“Home”) — but a few didn’t make it back. After Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis), Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), and Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) made their way back to Mystic Falls, the Wonder Twins stopped their spell closing the portal back, leaving Damon alone.

Using Bonnie as a connection to the Other Side, Elena was able to give one fond farewell to her on-again, off-again flame — and she definitely let out her ugly cry for a few minutes. Then, when Bonnie realized that she had no chance of coming back, she joined Damon on the Other Side and they held hands as they were potentially sucked into oblivion.

The one thing we’re clinging to is the fact that the episode ended mid-sentence, giving us some hope that the Powers That Be are toying around with the idea of concocting an elaborate plan to bring these two back.

Do you think Damon is dead for good or is there still a way to bring him back? Hit the comments and start speculating!
