Seeing badass vampire Lexi (Arielle Kebbel) back in action in the Vampire Diaries Season 5 finale brought joy to our hearts — but at what cost? Does her passing onto peace mean that we will never again enjoy the wit and heroism of Stefan’s BFF? Executive producer Julie Plec talked to The Hollywood Reporter on the possibility of seeing Lexi again!

“That is definitely the last we've seen of those characters [Lexi, Grams, and Silas] either get ripped into oblivion or, in Lexi's case, she seemed to find peace,” Julie said. “It's a true goodbye. Lexi is great in our flashbacks and part of Stefan's life, all the way from 1864 on, so we might see Arielle [Kebbel] again as Lexi in the past. As for the present, she sacrificed herself for her friend. And I cried and I cried.”

Yeah, if Lexi had to go, then that was a hell of a way to do it. So much of Lexi’s awesomeness was defined by the great lengths she was willing to go keep Stefan safe and happy. That she went out doing just that is such a fitting goodbye for her character — at least in present-day form. We’re glad to hear that we don’t necessarily have to say goodbye to Lexi full stop. We love our flashback episodes, and Lexi has been in some of the best. She has been such a part of Stefan’s journey, and we doubt we’ve seen the last of her.

Are you sad to hear that Lexi is gone for good in her present-day form? What sorts of flashbacks would you like to see featuring Lexi? Sound off in the comments below!
