The character of Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) felt a bit neglected in Season 5, so we’re glad to hear that the Vampire Diaries character will not only be getting new issues to deal with now that he is human again, but a potential new love interest in Season 6. What did executive producer Julie Plec tease about Tyler’s upcoming arc?

“It's a do-over,” Julie told The Hollywood Reporter of Tyler’s reversion to his human self. “A big theme of season six is second chances, and Tyler has this do-over but along with it, comes all this hostility and rage and aggression that gets so bottled up in you when you have a latent werewolf gene. Now that he knows what he knows and just how wrong it can go, he's going to work really hard to keep himself walking a straight line and to keep his temper in check and to be a good guy in spite of all that anger and ugliness that simmers inside him. It's going to be a struggle, but it's going to be a good struggle.”

We’re excited to see Tyler dealing with these new issues and being forced to redefine himself in such a drastic way after really embracing his hybrid self and the werewolf community. It will be interesting to see how he deals with having his humanity thrust back upon him in comparison to Katherine, who dealt with a similar reversion in Season 5. We’re guessing he’ll do a little better.

And is there love on the horizon for the former hybrid? Julie certainly seems interested in exploring something new for Tyler: “I'm excited about Tyler's storyline this year. It's time for him to find somebody new to love, because one thing that can help us with the darkest parts inside ourselves is the light of love, so I'm looking forward to exploring that with him.” Bring on the love! Tyler has had a hard year — is there any other kind on this show? — we’d like to see him find happiness in spite of the ever-present dangers of Mystic Falls.
