Everyone deals with tragedy in different ways and it seems that The Vampire Diaries crew will be having their own diverse effects to the events of the Season 5 finale. In the wake of Bonnie and Damon’s apparent deaths, their loved ones are trying to move on in Season 6 — to varying degrees of success. What did executive producer Julie Plec tease The Hollywood Reporter about our TVDers?

“We're going to come back in a whole new environment,” Julie said. “A good amount of time would have passed. Our characters fundamentally will have had to come to terms with the fact that Damon and Bonnie are gone forever. There are those who refuse to give up. There are those who have given up. There are those who are living in denial. All of them have found ways to move forward and get on with their lives in really unique and distinct ways.”

We have to admit: we’re unsure who will be living in denial and who will be still fighting to bring their friends back. Our instincts tell us that Elena will not have an easy time letting go of Damon and Bonnie and, given her initial reaction to Jeremy’s death (i.e. straight-up denial), she’s certainly a good candidate for captain of Team Denial. As for the others, we’re guessing Stefan is going to have some serious guilt over Damon’s death, given that Damon ventured to the Other Side in the first place to save Stefan. Also, given that Stefan’s default setting is guilt.

To complicate issues, the fang gang also has to deal with the magic-free bubble still surrounding Mystic Falls: “Exploring that new reality — the magic bubble, so to speak, that sits over Mystic Falls still exists, so they literally cannot go home again,” Julie teased. “That's a big theme of the early part of the season: How can we bring our heroes and our friends back together, and how can they find their way back home, literally and figuratively. That includes the Damon and Bonnie mystery as well.” Man, TVD sure does know how to create an obstacle to happiness. The TVDers are certainly set to start out Season 6 in quite a few pickles!
