Class is in session for Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis) in Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries. The fan favorite character is not only back from the dead as a series regular in the upcoming season, but will be employed as a professor at Whitmore College. That is one class we would always be excited for!

What to do when you’ve returned from the dead? Become a college professor, of course! This actually makes a lot of sense for Alaric, who was a history teacher at Mystic Falls High before getting turned into an evil vampire and, eventually, dying. It seems that, in Season 6, Alaric will be putting those history-teaching skills to good use as a college professor, presumably at Whitmore College — aka the school Elena and friends attend. We’re guessing Professor Saltzman has all the chili peppers on Rate My Professor.

Though Alaric may have found meaningful employment, he’s not doing so well. Executive producer Julie Plec told TV Guide: “Alaric is struggling a little bit. He was turned into a breed of original vampire and then set on a killing mission and then he died, so after being a weird vampire and a ghost for all this time he's assimilating into his life as this creature he never wanted to be. But he's still trying to be the human that he was and it's not easy for him.”

Of course, it’s not all bad times for Alaric in Season 6. In addition to his teaching, he has some special women in his life: “There might be some help and assistance that comes in the form of a woman he'll meet, and he and Elena are closer than ever, which is great because she has somebody in her life she can really rely on and they can share their grief together.” Aww. We’re Team Makeshift Gilbert Family.
