The Vampire Diaries and The Originals have thus far not made much use of their collective crossover potential, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t more plans to merge these two stories in interesting ways. Executive producer Julie Plec told HitFix they were “talking about [crossover] stories right now even as we speak.” What might that look like? Here are three possibilities.

Getting Bamon back. We’re still not sure exactly where Bonnie and Damon ended up following getting seemingly blinked out of existence in the Season 5 finale, but we know they will be back in Season 6 and trying to find their way back to their loved ones. You know who might be helpful with all of that? All of New Orleans. If the answer to crossing back over from whatever existential plane Bamon ended up exists then someone in the supernatural French Quarter probably knows about it. Powerful witches. Super old vampires. Ancestral grounds of extreme power. NOLA’s got it. Extra points if it’s Caroline who goes to Klaus to ask for help in getting her friends back, though we’d think it far more likely that Damon starts haunting Klaus considering no one on this plane of existence even knows Bamon is still out there.

Baby drama. We expect Klaus’ desire to protect his baby to continue to be his top priority moving forward, and you just know that The Originals is going to throw some obstacles in his path. Sure, right now, most of NOLA thinks that Baby Hope is dead, but how long will that really last? How long until Mikael and Esther use their grandchild against their son? And how long until Klaus realizes he needs to ask for help from some old friends. OK, maybe you wouldn’t exactly categorize the residents of Mystic Falls as Klaus’ friends, but the Original vampire has a different definition of the word. He’s tried to kill them less than most. He also come to their rescue in the past. Would Elena and Co. help him if he asked for it? We think Caroline might…

Season finale catastrophe. So far, we’ve been thinking about TVD/The Originals crossovers in terms of existing plot lines on the separate shows, but the best crossovers happen when all parties are equally involved in the drama, like The Avengers. If we’re going for true wishlist crossover ideas, then we’d like to see both shows slowly build towards an epic, two-hour season finale event that has both casts fighting the same evil, disaster, whatever that has been growing throughout their respective seasons. After all, what’s the point of having shows exist in the same narrative universe if you don’t go all in?
