Elena (Nina Dobrev) being sired to Damon (Ian Somerhalder) was a twist that Vampire Diaries fans won’t forget anytime soon. And it’s probably because they either love it or hate it. Some think it’s a genius way to complicate things for the love triangle, and it adds a level of mystery to the whole thing. Others see it as a cheap way to get Delena together without really getting them together. We see both sides of this argument, but in honor of those of you who aren’t big fans of the sire bond, we’re here to offer up five reasons why it should disappear.

1) Poor Damon: Can the guy ever catch a break? This beautiful man has never had the woman he loves return his feelings, and the moment he thinks she does, it turns out she’s sired to him. Let Damon be happy for once.

2) Elena’s more annoying: We always imagined that we would love the vampire version of Elena, but this sire bond makes her more of an annoying tag-along than a fierce vamp.

3) Poor Stefan: Not only does Stefan (Paul Wesley) have to go through losing his girl to his brother, but now he gets to sit alone and contemplate how much of it is her choice and how much of it is the sire bond? Talk about torment. And then there’s the fact that we might never know the answer.

4) There’s no way out of it: This could change, but right now, the only way for Damon to eliminate the bond is to send Elena away. We don’t quite understand how that would give her a clean slate to choose between Stefan and Damon. Won’t some part of her always be sired?

5) It taints the sex: Whether you’re team Delena or Stelena, there’s no denying that Damon and Elena’s first time was hot. But it was ruined by this sire bond and Stefan and Caroline’s (Candice Accola) conversation about it. It seems twisted in some way now. It’s such a shame to throw away something so… sexy.

That is our anti-sire bond argument. What do you think? Do you love or hate the sire bond?
